This is your chance to take part in the selection of the Liberal Democrat Mayoral candidate for Hampshire and the Solent Constituency.

You have a choice of the 3 candidates listed below:

Jack Davies 
Ben Dowling 
Martin Tod 

This email includes:

1) a link to the candidates’ manifestos at https://www.southcentrallibdems.org.uk/hats.
2) An on-line hustings and voting guide at the end of the email. The on-line hustings will take place on Saturday 16th August from 3 to 5pm (please note that E-voting will not begin until 9am on Monday 18th August). 

The Candidates’ Campaign has started and will last until the close of the ballot at 5pm on Monday 1st September. During this period, you may be contacted directly by candidates.

There will be 3 additional statements from each candidate which will be viewable at https://www.southcentrallibdems.org.uk/hats - the first set from 1st August, the second set from 15th August and the final set from 29th August. 

Eligible members whose subscriptions are no more than three months overdue shall be entitled to attend any members’ meeting but shall be eligible to vote only if they pay their overdue subscription and notify the Returning Officer in writing that they have done so by 5pm on Monday 11th August. 

Candidate hustings (members’ meeting)
You can hear the candidates speak at an on-line hustings which will be held on Saturday 16th August, from 3 to 5pm. You can submit questions for the candidates to the Returning Officer to arrive by 5pm on Monday 11th August by email to vfeirn@gmail.com or by post to Veronica Feirn, Southgarth, 2 Caistor Road, Barton-Upon-Humber, North Lincolnshire DN18 6AH (all the candidates will be asked the same questions). 

Please read carefully the attached on-line hustings and voting guide, which includes the information you need to join the event. 

All candidates must be invited to any local party social and campaigning events between now and the close of voting on Monday 1st September. 

The Eastleigh and Southampton local parties are holding an in-person hustings on Saturday 2nd August at 10.30am at The Hedge End 2000 Centre, Hedge End village, St Johns Road, Hedge End, SO30 4AF. Questions should be pre-submitted by email to Returning Officer Veronica Feirn at vfeirn@gmail.com by 5pm Thursday 31st July. 

Voting
Voting will start at 9am on Monday 18th August and close at 5pm on Monday 1st September.

On-line hustings and voting guide 
The English Party has directed that one on-line hustings must be held in connection with the selection of Mayoral candidates. 

The on-line hustings for this selection will be held on Saturday 16th August from 3 to 5pm on Zoom. Zoom is a widely used platform for virtual meetings and is approved and used by the Party generally. It is simple, quick and easy to use.

For the purposes of the on-line hustings, you may not necessarily be able to see or hear your fellow attendees but will be able to see and hear the candidates, the Chair, and the Returning Officer.

How do I actually join the Zoom hustings?
The hustings begin at 3pm on Saturday 16th August. To avoid delaying the start of the hustings, and in order that all candidates are heard by all attendees, please log in as soon as possible after 2.50pm.

How will I be able to vote for the Mayoral candidates?
Voting for most members will be electronic and will not start until 9am on Monday 18th August. It will close at 5pm on Monday 1st September.

As you are receiving this by e-mail your e-ballot will be sent to the same e-mail address.
Voting will be by Single Transferable Vote (STV) and you will be able to express your relative preferences for each candidate.

Only members who are on the membership register for the Hampshire and the Solent area Constituency (in accordance with the Local Parties’ Constitutions) and are fully paid up by 5pm on Monday 11th August are eligible to vote.
